Hip Hop: Students study writing and production techniques in hip-hop styles. Topics include the social and cultural aspects of hip-hop music and the analysis of stylistic and musical characteristics. Students will write hip-hop lyrics and music.
Big Picture High School
Songwriting will introduce the practice of creative composition as a means of artistic expression and its application to commercial music. The entire spectrum of genres from folk to hip-hop, spoken word, rock and country will be explored and analyzed. The essential components to which students are exposed include song structure; lyric composition, especially prosody and rhyme; music theory; and demonstration recording.
