Program Activities / Description
Corcoran will discuss the role of the conductor in an orchestra and how the conductor serves as the catalyst to bring everyone together to achieve a shared vision. Through performance, interaction and student participation, Corcoran will reveal techniques to bring people together, listen to others, encourage risk taking with respect, and the skills used to create an ensemble. This presentation can be tailored to address these issues in a musical framework, enhancing an ensemble’s ability to listen to each other, play cohesively and understand their roles in the ensemble. The presentation may also be tailored to non-musical classes where students will understand teamwork and leadership through the model of a symphony orchestra. This program is best designed for middle and high school students, but may be tailored for elementary students as well.
