Program Activities / Description
Southern Word music production workshops and residencies provide youth with the tools to develop, produce, and record their own music. Under the guidance of experienced mentors, students learn about tempo, rhythm, sound selection, sequencing, song structure, and lyric development using Logic Pro software. Students go from having no experience to being able to produce a simple song. Depending on the length of the residency and the previous experience of the students, the topics covered can range from basic song construction to advanced post-production and mixing. The workshop curriculum is project-based, meaning that all lessons will be structured around learning skills to aid in the creation of audio mixes. The size of this session is limited to 8 students, with each person sharing a portable music audio production station. The small size ensures that each student can get individualized support and attention. Students will be able to produce in almost any music style utilizing the extensive “loops library” accessible in Login Pro, and mentors are skilled in hip hop, rap, and pop genres.
