Special Considerations
Students with social / communication or motor-movement goals listed on their IEP are eligible for this program. No previous musical experience is required. At least one teacher should also be present to assist with this group. Any adult assistant assigned to students are also encouraged to participate.

Program Activities / Description
Description of group: Music based therapy to increase motor skills will involve 30 minutes of structured music, movement, and instrument playing activities in order to promote participation and experience in using body movement in enjoyable and functional physical activity and expression. Equipment needed: Guitar and/or keyboard, autoharp, music making instruments such as small hand-held rhythm instruments, resonator bells, and Orff instruments; recorded music prepared to meet the needs of the clients; tape/CD player; chairs arranged in a semi-circle with space to include those who use wheelchairs; and any session props that can be used to enhance the music and movement session. Criteria: The Group will be facilitated by a contracted Board Certified Music Therapist (MT-BC). Participants will include 3-10 children in each group assembled. Each group assembled will be broken up into age and/or developmental need, including, but not limited to preschool, elementary, middle school and high school level.
