Intersection Between Cultures

Glencliff High School mariachi students were featured in a performance with Intersection, a new contemporary classical ensemble in Nashville, Kelly Corcoran, Artistic Director and Conductor. The mariachi program explored the relationships between classical composers and folk influences, in this case Mexican composers and mariachi music. Mariachi in Metro Schools is offered at Glencliff High School and Wright Middle School and includes over 100 students from many ethnic and cultural backgrounds—Korean, Tau, Vietnamese, Hondureno, Salvadoran, Kurdish, and from the heartland of Mexico (Monterrey, Oaxaca, Michoacan, San Luis Potosi, and Guadalajara).
